Liwa, Backlit

<div>End of the day on the Liwa dunes. The sun drops, and the light comes from behind the people: that's backlight. At this hour the sand stops giving back colour and people turn into black shapes.</div><div>A group runs through yoga poses along the ridge. You don't see faces, only the moves: a tree, a warrior, arms above the head. Further off, others climb the dune to watch the sun set.</div><div>What interests me here is what the backlight takes away. No features, no clothes, no age. In the desert, everyone has the same silhouette. What's left is the gesture, the slope of the sand, and the line where the body meets the sky.</div>
