Fontfroide — What Light Does to Stone

The Cistercian abbey lit at night.

At Fontfroide Abbey, in the Aude, the night lighting changes the stone. The orange of sodium lamps on sandstone. Cold blue under the vaults. White beams in the nave. Patterns projected onto the cloister arches. The stone stays the subject. The light is what looks at it.
